In Germany one in ten women suffers from breast cancer. Depending on the particular situation, it is often the case that the attending gynecologist, ideally in a breast center, recommends the removal of a portion of the affected breast or the whole breast.
Breast-conserving surgery is undertaken when only a portion of the breast is removed. If breast-conserving surgery is not possible, the breast is then completely removed (mastectomy).
The breast is of great importance for a woman’s physical well being. A mastectomy for many women leads to great mental stress. With today’s methods of plastic surgery, the breast can be remodeled and regain its former aesthetic features.
Depending on your personal wishes and individual requirements a breast reconstruction can be undertaken immediately, simultaneously with the removal of the breast, or at any time thereafter.
